DNS - Denial of Service Attack in China

A man by the name of Craig Hockenberry received a massive influx of traffic hitting the website of his graphic design company. After an investigation, it was realized that this traffic came all the way from China, requests supposed to go to make social media sites that were being rerouted by the government. This had happened to many more people than just Hockenberry.
It seemed that China's DNS system, overloaded with censorship blocking the country from parts of the internet, had gone awry. China censors many websites by blocking out the DNS, but recently instead of this working, it would redirect people to random websites. This may not seem like a big issue, but according to a Forbes article, "if China’s censorship machine either screws up, or is hacked, it could redirect hundreds of millions of connections to online services and subsequently wipe out bits of the web".
